The municipality of Flen is in the heart of Sörmland, with all of its farms, crofts, oak pastures and lakes. Castles and manors, historic industrial areas, picturesque market towns or distinctive rural communities – the contrasts are great. With close to 200 lakes, water vistas appear almost everywhere. The largest of Sörmland’s lakes, Båven, is located here. Flen is also known as the city of icecream above others. For decades Flen has been the heart of the icecreamproducing company GB.A common denominator for many residents and businesses in the municipality, the interest in the quality of life. Foodprocessing and production of organic and local-produced commodities are examples of this.

More than 16,000 residents live here year round, but during the summer the population grows by an additional 10,000 people. Clearly, many already have found their favourite places and increasing numbers are turning them into permanent residences.

There are many small neighbourhoods within the boundaries of the municipality and all have their own distinctive character.

Hälleforsnäs has a cultural identify tied to its old ironworks, the Kolhusteater summer theatre and the shops situated in the area of the old ironfactory.

Picturesque Malmköping has markets, a tramway and cosy shops. Sparreholm has the abundance of Båven.

Mellösa is one of the world’s few ”Book Towns”, Flen is closely associated with its violets thanks to the song “Violen from Flen” (Violet from Flen), and the entire municipality is known for rhubarb, thanks to the rhubarb festival!
